According to the African Union Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, the total number of cases is 3,869,522 and the number of recovered in the last 24 hours in the 55 member states of the organization was superior to that of new cases (14,757), totaling 3,436,283.
Southern Africa remains the most affected region, with 1,826,074 cases and 56,000 deaths. In this region, South Africa, the country hardest hit by the covid-19 on the continent, accounts for 1,509,124 infections and 49,667 deaths.
North Africa is the second most affected area by the pandemic: 1,156,028 infected and 32,634 fatalities.
East Africa has passed 400,000 infections (400,244) and reports 7472 deaths, while in West Africa the number of cases is 384,228 and that of deaths is 4926.
Central Africa accounts for 102,948 cases and 1784 deaths.
Egypt, which is the second African country with the most fatalities, after South Africa, has 10,548 deaths and 180,640 infected, followed by Morocco, with 8598 fatalities and 482,514 cases.
Among the countries most affected are also Tunisia, with 7911 deaths and 231,298 cases, Algeria, with 2975 deaths and 112,530 infected, and Ethiopia, with 2321 fatalities and 156,112 infections.
Regarding Portuguese-speaking countries, Mozambique recorded 613 deaths and 57,597 cases, followed by Angola (502 deaths and 20,695 cases of infection), Cape Verde (145 deaths and 15,201 cases), Equatorial Guinea (91 deaths and 5957 cases) , Guinea-Bissau (48 dead and 3215 cases) and São Tomé and Príncipe (27 dead and 1719 cases).
