Covid-19: Africa with 454 more dead and 10,977 infected in the last 24 hours

In the last 24 hours, Africa recorded another 454 deaths from covid-19 for a total of 95,529 deaths, and 10,977 new cases of infection, according to the latest official pandemic data on the continent.

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the African Union (Africa CDC), the total number of infected in the 55 member states of the organization is 3,678,523 and that of recovered in the last 24 hours is 14,519, for one total of 3,207,080 since the beginning of the pandemic.

Southern Africa remains the most affected region, with 1,753,307 infected and 51,839 dead. In this region, South Africa, the country hardest hit by the covid-19 on the continent, records 1,477,511 cases and 46,473 deaths.

North Africa is the second most affected area by the pandemic, with 1,114,520 infected and 30,692 fatalities.

East Africa accounts for 372,008 infections and 7032 deaths, while in West Africa the number of infections is 346,527 and that of deaths is 4325.

Central Africa has 92,161 cases and 1641 deaths.

Egypt, which is the second African country with the most fatalities, after South Africa, has 9699 deaths and 170,207 infected, followed by Morocco, with 8,408 fatalities and 475,589 cases.

Among the six most affected countries are Algeria, with 2920 deaths and 109,221 cases, Ethiopia, with 2156 fatalities and 142,994 infections, and Kenya, with 1786 deaths and 101,944 infected.

Regarding Portuguese-speaking countries, Angola registers 475 deaths and 20,112 cases of infection, followed by Mozambique (465 deaths and 44,912 cases), Cape Verde (136 deaths and 14,451 cases), Equatorial Guinea (87 deaths and 5614 cases) , Guinea-Bissau (46 dead and 2780 cases) and São Tomé and Príncipe (18 killed and 1346 cases).
