Luanda elementary school students pass out due to tear gas that would be for protesters

Students from primary school 1042, in Luanda, passed out this Wednesday due to the inhalation of tear gas released by the police to disperse protesters protesting the inauguration of the new president of the National Electoral Commission (CNE).

"At the time we were working, I don't know what happened outside, two tear gas bombs were dropped on the school and with that we were all toxic, I was tearing myself up and at the children's level we also had consequences , some would faint, "Professor Venâncio Lucongo told reporters, expressing himself" indignant at the situation". The primary school is located in the Zamba 2 neighborhood, in the urban district of Maianga, near which protesters were dispersed who were trying to protest to the parliament against the possession of Judge Manuel Pereira da Silva "Manico" as president of the National Elections Commission (CNE).

Young protesters, especially those linked to the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA), were prevented "under police charge" from presenting their "discontent" at the appointment of the new president of the CNE.

According to the professor, for whom the police's attitude "is reprehensible", the Ministry of Interior, the body that protects the police force, "must measure the consequences" because what happened in the educational institution "is serious".

"We needed a medical team to assess the condition of the children, because things can be alarmed, and parents and guardians are not happy. This is sad because the police must protect citizens and not the other way around", said also the psychologist.

A strong police cord is present throughout the perimeter of the parliament, where the new president of the CNE was sworn in this Wednesday, despite the opposition from opposition parties and civil society, who point out "several irregularities".
