In declarations to journalists about the participation of the country in the mining fair "Indaba Mining 2020", that took place between Monday and Thursday, in the South African city of Cape Town, the Minister of Mineral Resources and Petroleum, Diamantino de Azevedo, said that among other participation strategies the attraction of Anglo America had a positive result.
According to the minister, in November 2019 five mining investment contracts were signed with Anglo America, for the 'green field' exploration of basic metals in the provinces of Moxico, Cunene and Cuando Cubango.
The holder of the Mineral Resources and Petroleum portfolio stressed that the meeting with the CEO of Anglo America, who was one of the main speakers at the opening of the Indaba Mining conference this year, served to review the agreements already signed, after almost two years of negotiation.
"What we got right are already practical aspects. There are areas that need to be assessed in terms of the existence of landmines, we have analysed the issue of access to geological information produced under the Planageo (National Geology Plan), we have analysed logistics issues and we have also explained to Anglo America the restructuring we are doing to the sector", said the minister.
The governor said that the company has been given assurances that the ongoing restructuring "will not affect the contracts signed, it may only affect in the positive sense".
"And we also conveyed to Anglo America that all the changes we are making in the country in general and in the mining sector in particular have been well thought out, well done and in an inclusive manner, with the participation, as was the case in the oil sector, of the operators themselves. This new model for the mining sector, which we will soon bring to the attention of the holder of executive power, aims only to improve the management of the sector and the transparency of the sector," he said.
