Pompeo and João Lourenço have already met. Fight against corruption will have been on the table

The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, received the American Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, in the middle of this morning.

:

The hearing took place at the Presidential Palace, in Luanda, and was the highlight of a 24-hour visit by the American ruler, which includes meetings with his counterpart, Manuel Augusto and diplomats from his country seconded in the capital.

Only after this meeting will the conclusions of Pompeo's visit be known, as a press conference at the Ministry of International Relations is scheduled for later.

The government's short agenda also includes a round table with Angolan businessmen at the Currency Museum and a meeting with the US diplomatic corps at the country's embassy.

The Secretary of State made clear the character of his agenda, in line with the economic reforms needed to attract American investors and create a good business environment in Africa. The fight against corruption will play a key role in the American ‘vote of confidence’.

Even before meeting with the President, Mike Pompeo met with a group of six trained Angolan women entrepreneurs in the USA, more specifically in an international leadership program.

Among them was the stylist Nadir Tati, who participated in the program three years ago and said it was an enriching experience, which is being replicated in Angola and other African countries.

The US Secretary of State is on a 'tour' of Africa, and will also visit Eitopia, Oman, and Saudi Arabia, already in the Middle East.
