The project that started in August last year is scheduled to end in 2021. According to the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, António Francisco Assis, cited by the Angop agency, the works foresee the maintenance of five thousand hectares: three thousand will be used for commercial agriculture and the remaining two thousand will be given to smaller farmers.

It is expected that 20,000 tons of corn, 5,000 tons of beans and 3,500 tons of soy beans will be produced per year, the government said.

He said that 700 hectares have already been cleaned and that expectations regarding the use of the pole are already high, expecting that during this month the first 400 hectares of corn will be cultivated.

The work also foresees the construction of a reservoir, to help with the irrigation system of crops, and the construction of a training center for technicians to supply agricultural equipment.

The construction of the centre and the dam will create 180 jobs and its operation will generate another 100 jobs.

The Agro-industrial Pole was created in 2010 with the aim of producing corn, beans and raising cattle.
