On Sunday, the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, reinforced, once again, the importance of physical activity for health, having cycled more than 20 kilometers.

Using his Facebook page, the President of the Republic encouraged citizens to practice sports.

"Early Sunday, cycling for health. It was 21 kilometers", wrote João Lourenço, encouraging the population: "Let's do sports".

It is worth noting that the head of state is not a 'newbie' to this type of initiative. According to Jornal de Angola, the President of the Republic participated in two cycling sessions last year. In one of them, he managed to cover a distance of 25 kilometers in one hour and 25 minutes.

In 2022, João Lourenço cycled 23 kilometers in 49 minutes. The route started at the Port of Luanda and continued to Nova Marginal, where, upon arrival, it made a few additional turns, before completing the route at Memorial Dr. António Agostinho Neto.

The Minister of Health, Sílvia Lutucuta, who was present at this event, highlighted that initiatives like this encourage interest in practicing sports in Angola, and a more active lifestyle can contribute to the improvement of diseases such as, for example, hypertension. "We know that more than half of our adult population is hypertensive," she said, highlighting the importance of physical exercise as an essential measure for health.

"We have to start promoting, more and more, physical activities, to improve our mental, psychological and physical state, so that we are better prepared", considered, at the time, the head of the health portfolio, writes the Jornal de Angola.

It is worth remembering that João Lourenço has encouraged the practice of sports. In addition to these cycling initiatives, for example, at the beginning of December last year the presidential couple promoted a sports marathon at the Presidential Palace.
