One of these meetings was with the UN Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations, Jean-Pierre Lacroix. According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to which VerAngola had access, the meeting served for the two to talk about the "current challenges of the Luanda Process and cooperation with Monusco for the stabilization of the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo".
Furthermore, "Angola's presidency of the African Union also deserved attention".
Another of the meetings that stood out was the one held with the Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs and Peacebuilding, Rosemary DiCarlo.
As well as the meeting with Jean-Pierre Lacroix, the Luanda Process and Angola's presidency of the AU were also topics that dominated the meeting with Rosemary DiCarlo, who praised Angola's mediation efforts to help ease tension in eastern DRC, as well as showing its willingness to provide support to Angola in this endeavor.
Téte António's agenda in New York was also filled with a meeting, this Wednesday, with the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Amina Mohammed, where they "reviewed aspects related to strengthening cooperation between the Government Angolan and the United Nations in terms of development".
According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to which VerAngola had access, the minister "praised Amina Mohammed's commitment to driving global efforts to accelerate the 2030 Agenda and ensure the implementation of the Pact for the Future, which he considered a historic agreement that seeks address many of today's urgent challenges across all pillars of the United Nations".
Among other aspects, Téte António also informed the official about the Angolan presidency of the AU, starting in February, having said that the country will present a unifying vision among all nations on the continent "based on the interest in seeking solutions that contribute as much as possible to ending the conflicts that persist in Africa".
He also noted that "the country is also determined to work closely with the United Nations and other partners to promote the integration, stability and development of the continent in the search for solutions to the problems that still block the path towards social progress, economic, scientific, technical and technological".
"in his capacity as mediator appointed by the African Union to facilitate the normalisation of relations between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda in the quest for peace and security in the eastern DRC".
The Foreign Minister's workday in the US, which ended this Wednesday, was intense. During his visit to New York, Téte António participated in the "United Nations Security Council open debate on Africa-Led and Development-Focused Counter-Terrorism: Strengthening African Leadership and Implementing Counter-Terrorism Initiatives", as well as a working lunch with members of the United Nations Security Council.
Furthermore, it is also worth noting that the Foreign Minister also held meetings with Bankole Adeoye, African Union Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security, his Algerian counterpart, Ahmed Ataff, among others.
