"This distinction takes on greater relevance when it comes to preserving national independence. Preserving national independence is not defending, much less preserving, the party-state or its electoral frauds," said the leader of the parliamentary group of the National Union for Total Independence of Angola (UNITA), Liberty Chiaka, when reading the political declaration.
Liberty Chiaka stated that it is important to mark Angola's 50 years of Independence, "but even more important are the 50 years to come".
"If at the level of the State, or rather in the National Assembly, we can recognize by consensus, in this year of the fiftieth anniversary of national independence, that the greatest threat to the goals of national independence is the capture of the democratic State by a party-State, then, we will be making the greatest contribution to building the dream of independence from now on," he said.
For the UNITA parliamentary group, "2025 is, without a doubt, a milestone, because it opens a new stage to build the foundations of a new country".
"To eliminate poverty, reduce inequalities and combat corruption in new ways, without rancor, and so that Angola's money does not remain abroad and in the possession of foreigners, but returns to the country to achieve independence national level in the field of sharing national wealth", he stressed.
Liberty Chiaka criticized the government's priorities, arguing that independence should economically benefit all regions and all political and social groups.
According to the leader of the UNITA parliamentary group, today the State says there is no "money to attack the structural causes of the cholera outbreak and the endemic diseases of malaria and typhoid fever", while there are funds "for an expensive and multimillion-dollar program of parties and celebrations" of national independence.
"Extreme poverty has increased by 82 percent in eight years and affects 11.6 million Angolans. There is no money to combat extreme poverty, but there is money for institutional propaganda, which does not end hunger, and there is a lot of money for external consultancy that takes away opportunities for Angolan staff", the deputy also expressed.
Angola celebrates 50 years of national independence on November 11, the celebrations of which began in November 2024, with a vast program of festivities, with decentralized activities in all provinces and diplomatic missions of Angola, so that all Angolans can get involved and participate of this historic landmark.
