The Israeli diplomat stressed that the agreement reached establishes that Hamas will no longer govern the Gaza Strip and "that is important and that is how it will be".
"Terrorist organizations cannot govern the population of Palestine, so we are committed to expelling Hamas from that place, so that the Palestinians are truly freed. Today is a very important day", he added.
For the first time in more than a year, the population of Gaza woke up after a night without bombardments, the day after the ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel came into effect.
The first day of the ceasefire was marked by the release of three Israeli hostages, kidnapped during the Hamas attacks of October 7, 2023, and 90 Palestinian prisoners (69 women and 21 minors).
In the first phase of the deal, which came into effect on Sunday after 15 months of conflict in the Gaza Strip, Israel and Hamas agreed to a six-week ceasefire, during which 33 Israeli hostages will be gradually exchanged for more than 1900 Palestinian prisoners.
The war in the Gaza Strip was triggered by Hamas' unprecedented assault on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, in which more than 1200 people were killed and about 250 were taken hostage in the enclave, which Hamas has controlled since 2007.
