"We have planned for Dombe Grande, which has now become a municipality, the construction of a new hospital for this year, because that hospital we saw is degraded and could be rehabilitated in the future", he said, quoted in a statement from the provincial government of Benguela, to which VerAngola had access.
Speaking during a visit he made to the hospital – in a highly dilapidated state, even without a roof in the main part –, Nunes Júnior pushed the rehabilitation of the infrastructure into the future, stressing that the priority is to build a new unit.
"The old hospital could be rehabilitated in the future, but we understand that, at this moment, the priority is the construction of a new one," he said.
According to Angop, patient care is being carried out in an attached room, at the back, and there are currently 500 patients hospitalized, but they are out of danger.
During his workday in the municipality of Baía Farta, the governor left the guarantee that he will "work hard to improve the social infrastructure" of that municipality.
At the time, according to the provincial government's statement, Manuel Nunes Júnior "recognized that many structures need intervention".
Thus, in relation to the education, justice and health infrastructures of Baía Farta, he said that the local government will intervene in the infrastructures that are "in a state of degradation in the municipality of Baía-Farta".
He also informed that "the local government will continue to work on primary health care and improving the provision of services at medical centers and posts, with a view to relieving reference hospitals".
In this sense, he spoke about the concrete plan for the Baía Farta hospital, which he also visited this Tuesday. Regarding this unit, he said that it will expand its capacity and quality of service.
"It is not yet being treated, from a budgetary point of view, as an autonomous unit, like general hospitals", pointed out the governor who, cited by Angop, explained that the unit depends on the municipal administration of Baía Farta and, therefore, has few resources
"When the hospital starts to have its own resources, then we will have better services, with better quality and better user satisfaction", he added.
On the field trip, the governor also visited the local court, the tomato factory in Dombe Grande, among others.
According to another note from the government of Benguela, to which VerAngola had access, the working visit to Baía Farta served for the governor to find out "about the level of execution of ongoing projects and listen to the problems of the communities in this municipality".
