Sociologist Laurindo Vieira dies after being shot in Luanda

Laurindo Vieira, sociologist and also rector of the Gregório Semedo University, died this Thursday after being shot in the Patriota area, municipality of Talatona, in Luanda.

It all happened when the sociologist was leaving a BCI bank branch. According to Jornal de Angola, the perpetrators of the shooting were two individuals traveling on a motorbike.

After being shot – according to a video circulated on social media – Laurindo Vieira fell and started asking for help, and ended up being helped to the Endiama clinic. The rector arrived at the clinic still alive, where he was resuscitated, but he ended up succumbing to his injuries.

Speaking to Jornal de Angola, the spokesperson for SIC Luanda, chief superintendents Fernando de Carvalho, said that steps are already underway to investigate the facts.

Laurindo Vieira, born in the province of Uíge, was 60 years old. In addition to his position as rector, he was also a television commentator, and in academic terms, he had a degree in Sociology, as well as a master's degree in Educational Sciences from the Portuguese University of Porto.
