The co-author of the national anthem, former Minister of Sports and former ambassador to Portugal, died from a prolonged illness, a diplomatic source told Lusa.
His death thus leaves the national culture poorer. Born on May 12, 1939, Rui Mingas leaves a vast legacy: in addition to having a stamp on the authorship of the national anthem, he was also Angola's ambassador to Portugal.
An active activist in the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA), Mingas also served as deputy and was Minister of Sports.
Already in the world of culture, as a musician, he composed poems by national poets Viriato da Cruz, Agostinho Neto, Mário António and António Jacinto, adding to his record curriculum themes such as "Cantiga por Luciana", "Poema da Farra", "Makezu", "Meninos do Huambo", among others.
However, Mingas was not a 'master' of just one art. When he was younger he stood out in sport by doing athletics (high jump and 110 meter hurdles).
