EMIS offers direct debit service to facilitate payments

A new payment system was made available to the Angolan market by the Interbank Services Company (EMIS). Called the Direct Debit System (SDD), this system aims to facilitate the payment of recurring expenses, such as electricity and water bills.

But how does this system work? According to EMIS, SDD concerns a "payment service that allows the customer (debtor) to make one-off or periodic payments through an authorization of debit mandates (authorization) to their payment account".

In other words, with this system, customers will be able to authorize debiting from their account to pay for various types of services. "It allows you to make all types of payments that result from long-lasting contracts, or are of a periodic nature: for example, water, electricity, telephone, insurance, house rent or installments resulting from the acquisition of goods on credit", reads the website of EMIS.

Furthermore, says the company, direct debits "can also be used to top up bills for services provided in pre-payment mode".

According to EMIS – in a statement, cited by Angop –, this system brings several benefits, highlighting the fact that customers no longer need to go to bank branches to make payments or top up recurring services.

The fact that the service charged is not canceled due to non-payment due to forgetfulness, as well as the fact that it is an automatic payment with no record of delays, etc., are other advantages of this system.

For now, there are some companies that are already using SDD: DSTV, ENSA, Global Seguros, Nossa Seguros and ZAP VIVA. According to EMIS, cited by Angop, other entities are currently joining.
