Minister of Youth and Sports says that adapted sport has a high name for the country in the world

Palmira Barbosa, Minister of Youth and Sports, said that adapted sport has raised the country's name in the world, through results in international competitions.

When intervening in a sporting activity – which took place at the Coqueiros stadium and where the Director of Diversity and Inclusion of the United States of America (USA) Department of State, Gina Abercombie-Winstanley, was present – the holder of the Youth and Sports portfolio stated that "Paralympic athletes are a true force and also a school of life".

On the occasion, she also took the opportunity to praise the initiative of the US Department of State "to interact and make contact with adapted sports in the country".

Cited in the note, the minister said that gestures like this become "a motivational way" for the committee to overcome the challenges: "Gestures like the ones we are witnessing today become a motivational way for the Paralympic Committee to overcome the challenges that ahead", said the minister.

The Director of Diversity and Inclusion at the US Department of State, Gina Abercombie-Winstanley, was touched by the "stories of overcoming athletes that she heard and saw, always accompanied by success".

Cited in another note, which VerAngola had access to, the official said that "diplomacy takes advantage of the passion shared by athletes to encourage inclusion in diverse communities around the world" and added that her department strives to "promote diversity, quality, inclusion and accessibility".

She also made it known that these programs also foster the US commitment "to empower women and girls, strengthen resilience against extremist influences and develop leadership skills", reads in the note.

"Our sports diplomacy programs include a variety of sports such as basketball, skateboarding, football and martial arts and sports for the disabled in more than 100 countries," she said, quoted in the committee's note.

The official also said that the US government hopes to continue cooperating with the Angolan government "as catalysts for change".

He also took the opportunity to congratulate the football team for amputees "for winning the second place in the World Championship, in 2022, in Turkey, as well as the athletes who performed in the same modality match, athletics race and manual traction tricycle", add the note.

The activity also included the participation of the US ambassador to Angola, Tulinabo Mushingi, the president of the Angolan Paralympic Committee, Leonel da Rocha Pinto, among others.
