New composition of the board of the National Assembly approved unanimously

The new composition of the table of the National Assembly (AN) passed the scrutiny of parliament, which, this Friday, unanimously approved the draft resolution regarding the new composition of its table.

:

The resolution, the sole point of the third ordinary plenary meeting of the first legislative session of the Fifth Legislature of the National Assembly, was approved with 193 votes in favor, zero against and no abstentions.

Thus, Américo Kuononoca, deputy of the MPLA, was elected to the position of first vice-president of the AN.

Among the vice-presidents, there is also the name of Arlete Chimbinda, from UNITA, who will occupy the position of second vice-president of AN.

Raúl Lima, from the MPLA, and Xavier Jaime, from UNITA, were also elected as third and fourth vice-presidents, respectively.

In terms of secretaries, for the first and second secretaries of the AN board, Manuel Dembo, from the MPLA, and Amélia Judith Ernesto, from UNITA, were appointed, respectively.

The position of third secretary will be occupied by Rosa Branca Albino, from the MPLA, while Ernesto Cassongo, from UNITA, will occupy the position of fourth secretary.

This resolution revokes the one approved on September 16, 2022, during the constituent meeting of parliament, where Américo Kounonoca and Raúl Lima were elected first and second vice-presidents, respectively, and Manuel Dembo and Rosa Branca Albino first and second secretaries, a contested process by UNITA, who left the session at the time.

The deputy of the Humanist Party of Angola (PHA), opposition, Florbela Malaquias, in her explanation of vote, highlighted the "flexibility and tolerance" recorded in the vote of the final table of parliament, considering them "very important values".

"Since flexibility is the touchstone of contemporary political humanism, which privileges formulas for coexistence between different values, the consequence of this can only be consensus", stressed the humanist deputy.

And the president of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira, congratulated the now elected deputies, who subsequently took their seats at the presidential table, and considered that the legislative body took this Friday "another step in the stabilization of this legislature".

"This is a remarkable moment of the V Legislature of the National Assembly, because with this election it can be considered that it is possible to find a common denominator between the parties, always prevailing common sense, moderation and responsibility", she said.

As of this Friday, the House of Democracy is "institutionally complete in terms of its bodies and with this act there is a platform of institutional understanding that, respecting party differences, will work cohesively on behalf of the national interest", pointed out Carolina Cerqueira.

The president of parliament also expressed "rejoicing" for the support of all parties with a parliamentary seat in the process of definitive composition of the table, which led to "positive manifestations" at various levels and recognition by political agents and civil society.

The action demonstrated "a qualitative and maturity leap in the result that comes from the democracy of all parliamentary groups as a sign of trust between the various political actors".

"This was a victory for everyone in the name of dialogue and moderation", concluded the parliamentary leader.

The members elected here form part of the permanent committee of the National Assembly.
