"This Sunday, the President of the Republic of Angola, João Lourenço, took part in the ceremonies that marked the return of Luís Inácio Lula da Silva to the Presidency of the Federative Republic of Brazil, after his electoral victory last October", reads a note from CIPRA, which VerAngola had access to.

In all acts, the head of state, who traveled to Brazil last Friday, was accompanied by the first lady of the Republic, Ana Dias Lourenço.

According to the note, during the afternoon and part of the night on Sunday, Brasilia, the capital of Brazil, "was the scene of the different moments that constituted the investiture program of the new Brazilian head of state, with emphasis on the Congress (Parliament) and the Planalto Palace (Presidency of the Republic)".

One of the highlights of the ceremony – where more than 300,000 people attended and which started at 2:30 pm local time (6:30 pm in Angola) – was a parade in which Lula da Silva, Geraldo Alckmin, vice-president of Brazil, and their wives they traveled in an open-top car from the Cathedral to the National Congress, where Lula da Silva and Geraldo Alckmin were sworn in as president and vice-president, writes Angop.

According to Angop, the Brazilian head of state and vice president, in the plenary of the Chamber, received greetings from senators, deputies, some heads of state and government as well as guests.

60 delegations from different countries, including Angola, attended the event.

Last Friday, according to another CIPRA note to which VerAngola had access, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, referred that Angola would take advantage of the occasion of Lula da Silva's investiture "to intensify relations with the Brazil and also expand ties with other countries" represented at the event. "The assumption of office is expected to continue the historic relationship we have with Brazil," he added.
