President congratulates Cuba on anniversary of Cuban Revolution

The President, João Lourenço, this Sunday congratulated the Government of Cuba on the celebration of the anniversary of the Cuban Revolution, showing the “intention” of “boosting the historic ties of friendship and cooperation” between the two countries.

In a note from the Civil Office of the President of the Republic, released this Sunday, João Lourenço addressed his Cuban counterpart, Miguel Mario Dias-Canel Bermúdez, to, on his behalf and that of the executive, "congratulate the people, the Cuban Government" and the head of state "for the celebration of another anniversary of the Cuban Revolution".

"With the intention of continuing to boost the historic ties of friendship and cooperation existing between Angola and Cuba, I express our interest in identifying areas of reciprocal collaboration, in which we can act in a complementary way, for the benefit of the progress and development of our respective peoples and countries", reads the note.

João Lourenço also showed solidarity "towards the Cuban people, who over the decades have shown themselves to be resilient in defending their identity and principles".

The Cuban Revolution was an armed and guerrilla movement that culminated in the ousting of Cuba's dictator Fulgêncio Baptista on January 1, 1959 by the 26th of July Movement led by the revolutionary guerrilla Fidel Castro.
