Caraculo Photovoltaic Plant scheduled to start up in the first quarter of this year

The start-up of the Caraculo Photovoltaic Plant, in the municipality of Bibala, province of Namibe, is scheduled for the first three months of this year.

According to the chairman of the Board of Directors of Solenova – the company responsible for the work –, Germano Sacavumbi, quoted in a note from the Provincial Government of Namibe, to which VerAngola had access, the photovoltaic project will, in a first phase, produce from the first quarter this year 25 megawatts of clean energy, out of the 50 megawatts forecast.

Speaking as part of a verification visit by the governor of Namibe, Archer Mangueira, to the project, Solenova's PCA stressed that the work "is practically completed".

"Technically we have completed all the work, with a physical progress of around 90 percent, as what is lacking at this time are details of tuning, testing and trials for the effective production of the plant", he added, quoted by Angop.

In turn, according to the note from the government of Namibe, to which VerAngola had access, Archer Mangueira considered the plant as "an important source of electricity in the province of Namibe, from a renewable resource, and which will allow the reduction of diesel consumption for electricity production".

The governor also highlighted the fact that the project was designed with "capacity to respond to the demand for energy for domestic and industrial consumption, reducing the emission of greenhouse gases, contributing to Angola's energy transition", reads the note.

According to Angop, the plant – whose first phase of construction work has already been completed, waiting for the testing phase – counted on 42 million dollars, used for the installation of 46,000 panels, the operations building, among other services.

After the completion of the second and final stage, the plant, whose useful life is estimated at 25 years, will have a production capacity of around 50 megawatts of energy.
