Agreement for the supply of energy signed between Solenova and RNT

Solenova and the National Electricity Transport Network (RNT) signed an agreement last Friday to supply electricity from the Caraculo Photovoltaic Power Station.

According to a statement from Sonangol, quoted by Jornal de Angola, the presidents of the boards of directors of both companies were the signatories, with Rui Gourgel on the RNT side and Germano Sacavumbi representing Solenova.

This contract, which aims to favor industries and local populations, is only the first of other collaborations that are being signed to supply photovoltaic energy, according to Germano Sacavumbi, quoted in the note, writes Jornal de Angola.

Rui Gourgel – the Jornal de Angola adds – took the opportunity to indicate the "pioneering vision" of the national oil company's bet on renewable energies.

The act of signing the contract was attended by Gaspar Martins and Adriano Mongini, chairman of the boards of directors of Sonangol and Azule Energy, respectively.

To be built since May this year, the Caraculo Photovoltaic Power Station will be capable of generating 50 megawatts, in a project comprising two phases, the first of which will be 25 megawatts. Located in the province of Namibe, the plant, whose project is the responsibility of Saipem, will contribute to reducing the consumption of diesel to produce electricity, among other things.

According to Jornal de Angola, the flagship oil company wants to move from a national oil company to a national energy company. Thus, along with the Caraculo Photovoltaic Power Station, Sonangol formed a partnership with TotalEren and Greentech Angola to complete the Quilemba Solar Photovoltaic Power Station (Lubango), capable of producing 35 megawatts.

It should also be noted that, in July, the photovoltaic parks of Biopio and Baía Farta were inaugurated in the country.
