Registered 60 dead and 319 injured by road accidents in the last week

Last week, Angola recorded 60 deaths and 319 injuries as a result of 248 road accidents, the second leading cause of death in the country, after malaria, the National Police announced.

According to the Public Safety Report from 14 to 20 January, which the Lusa agency had access to, Luanda recorded 49 accidents, followed by Benguela (28), Huambo (28) and Huíla (23).
Also within the scope of traffic inspection, 261 vehicles, 684 motorcycles and 1049 driving licenses were seized, with 3074 fines being imposed.

"We once again appeal to motorists to avoid speeding and pedestrians to cross with due attention and in safe places", said the police.

In the last week, among the various actions carried out by the Police, the arrest of 849 suspects and the seizure of 39 firearms of different calibers stand out.

With regard to borders, 607 border offenses were recorded, resulting in the arrest of 1999 citizens, 1850 of them from the Democratic Republic of Congo, accompanied by 111 children, 20 from Namibia, ten from Zambia and 12 from the Republic of Congo.

The list of arrests also includes 107 Angolan citizens for fuel smuggling, illegal fishing, illicit trafficking of immigrants and smuggling of undeclared goods.
