Update of the official electoral registration of angolans abroad starts next Monday

Next Monday, January 17th, the update of the official electoral register of angolans residing abroad will start, revealed the Ministry of Territory Administration and State Reform.

"The update of the official electoral register of Angolan citizens residing abroad is scheduled to start next Monday, January 17, 2022, with the formal opening act to be held in Cape Town, Republic of South Africa", can be read a statement made available on the guardianship website.

The ministry also mentions that the act will be witnessed by a delegation coordinated by Marcy Lopes, Minister of Territory Administration, which includes the Secretaries of State for Foreign Affairs and Justice, Domingos Vieira Lopes and Orlando Fernandes, respectively.

Thus, angolans of legal age or who turn 18 by December 31, "must update their residency at the Diplomatic or Consular Mission of the country in which they reside", explains the note.

According to a note from the ministry, the update of the unofficial electoral register takes place, for the first time, as a result of the one-off revision of the Constitution of Angola, carried out in 2021.

The unofficial electoral registration abroad will take place until March and, according to figures advanced by the Government and cited by Novo Jornal, will cost around 44.7 billion kwanzas.

It is estimated that around 450,000 angolans are living outside the country, spread across 57 countries.
