The intention, revealed by the Government of Angola on its Facebook page, was expressed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece, Nikolaos Dendias, in an audience, in Luanda, with the President of Angola, João Lourenço.
Speaking to the press, quoted on the same page, Nikolaos Dendias said that he sees Angola as an important partner: "Therefore, we are going to cooperate with Angola in order to better understand the African continent and how we can interact", he said.
The head of Greek diplomacy also suggested the possibility of relations being elevated to a trilateral level, involving Greece, Angola and Portugal.
"We can also cooperate in trilateral terms, that is, Greece, Angola and Portugal to help us understand the African continent", he stressed, after leaving the meeting that took place at the Presidential Palace.
The Republic of Greece wants to cooperate with Angola in the sectors of trade, tourism, industry, agriculture and innovation, the Government said.
Nikolaos Dendias also said that Angola received from Greece a donation of 100,000 doses of Johnson & Johnson vaccine against covid-19 and that the country is available to cooperate in the health sector.
"There is openness for us to transmit 'know-how' to the Angolan Government, in terms of managing these vaccines, and the most favorable way to reach their recipients", he stressed.
The official also pointed out the possibility of the two countries cooperating in the area of maritime security, as Greece has one of the largest commercial naval fleets, and training Angolan cadets in its naval academies.
The Greek diplomat also addressed an invitation from the Greek President, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, to the Angolan head of state for a visit to Greece, in order to enhance bilateral relations.
