Angolan woman arrested in Luanda with 2.5 kilos of cocaine from Brazil

An Angolan woman was arrested in possession of 2.5 kilograms of cocaine after arriving from Brazil at Luanda's international airport, the spokesman for the Criminal Investigation Service (SIC) said on Wednesday.

According to Manuel Halaiwa, the 22-year-old citizen was arrested last weekend, in the arrivals hall, in a joint action with the airport's security system.

Halaiwa said the drug, the first seizure this year at 4 de Fevereiro International Airport, was hidden in the woman's clothing, in a properly crafted blouse to deceive the authorities.

"The arrest took place when passengers disembarked from a TAAG - Angolan Airlines flight, leaving Guarulhos Airport, in the state of São Paulo", said the SIC spokesperson, quoted by Angop.

The authorities arrived at the passenger out of suspicion, stressed Manuel Halaiwa, and the citizen was subjected to a check of her luggage and body screening, eventually detecting foreign bodies in the regions of the abdomen and thorax.

The authorities found two rectangular cardboard packages with the woman, coated with stickers and sealed with black plastic tape.

According to the SIC spokesperson, the investigation found that the woman served as a courier, recruited by her Angolan boyfriend, residing in Luanda, to travel to Brazil and transport the drug.

The drug's owner is a citizen of the Democratic Republic of Congo, and the woman was promised a reward of 3,000 dollars, the same source explained.

"In view of the facts, the drug was seized as evidence of the crime and the person involved was arrested, who was sent to the Public Prosecutor's Office, who ordered pre-trial detention, while proceedings continue around the process", stressed the official.
