Covid-19: Africa with 1043 more deaths and 34,003 cases in the last 24 hours

In the last 24 hours, Africa recorded an additional 1043 deaths from covid-19, for a total of 76,762, and 34,003 new cases of infection, according to the latest official pandemic data on the continent.

According to the African Union's Disease Control and Prevention Center (Africa CDC), the number of infected people is 3,176,784 and that of those recovered in the organization's 55 member states in the last 24 hours was 31,127, for a total 2,594,088 since the beginning of the pandemic.

Southern Africa remains the most affected region, with 1,473,968 infected and 38,694 deaths. South Africa alone, the country hardest hit by the covid-19 on the continent, has 1,296,806 cases and 35,852 deaths.

North Africa is the second most affected area by the pandemic, with 1,007,458 infected and 26,434 fatalities. East Africa accounts for 339,952 infections and 6341 deaths, while in West Africa the number of infections is 275,313 and that of deaths is 3,568 and in Central Africa there are 80,093 cases and 1529 deaths.

Egypt, which is the second African country with the most fatalities, after South Africa, registers 8421 deaths and 153,741 infected, followed by Morocco, with 7854 fatalities and 456,334 infected.

Among the six most affected countries are also Tunisia, with 5478 deaths and 170,895 infected, Algeria, with 2822 deaths and 103,127 cases, Ethiopia, with 2008 fatalities and 129,922 infections, and Kenya, with 1723 deaths and 98,693 infected.

Regarding Portuguese-speaking countries, Angola registers 425 deaths and 18,613 cases, followed by Mozambique (211 deaths and 24,269 cases), Cape Verde (115 deaths and 12,664 cases), Equatorial Guinea (86 deaths and 5316 cases), Guinea -Bissau (45 dead and 2478 cases) and São Tomé and Príncipe (17 killed and 1119 cases).
