The medical teams of the reference health units in Lunda Sul province were reinforced on Tuesday with nine Cuban doctors. The professionals will reinforce neonatology, intensive care, orthopedics, pediatrics, anesthesia, pediatric and maxillofacial surgery specialties.

According to the distribution map, the Pediatric Hospital stayed with a pediatrician. This reinforcement will improve the medical assistance of the patients, since this unit has been missing this kind of specialists for some time.

The Maternidade Provincial received, for the first time, a neonatologist. The same unit also received an intensivist and an anesthesiologist.

Finally, two surgeons (one maxillofacial and one pediatric), two orthopedists, an anesthesiologist and a professional specialized in intensive care, will join the medical team of the General Hospital.

This reinforcement will help to mitigate the shortage of these specialties in these health units, thus allowing a better response and medical assistance to the population, admitted the director of the Provincial Health Office in Lunda Sul, Viegas de Almeida.

The director, cited by Angop, considered that this number of specialists is still not enough to put an end to the needs of the province, but stressed that it will help to improve the medical response.

The director of the Provincial Health Office in Lunda Sul also made it known that the province is preparing the reception and accommodation of Cuban doctors, who will arrive in Lunda Sul in the next few days.

Before the reinforcement, the province had 78 doctors, 874 nurses and 138 therapeutic diagnostic technicians, spread over 103 health units.
