Government admits to opening “one-off” tenders for transport of vaccines against covid-19

The head of the Security House of the President of the Republic of Angola said that government resources should be sufficient to transport vaccines against covid-19, without excluding the possibility of opening "one-off" tenders to support this operation.

:

General Pedro Sebastião, who was speaking this Monday during a press conference in Luanda, admitted that the transport of vaccines is “a challenge”, stressing that the Armed Forces may also support the logistical effort that involves several ministries, including those of the Transport and Health.

"We do not, in principle, need to use other entities for the transport of vaccines, but where necessary, occasionally, we can, on the basis of a competition, establish the modalities that will be used for the transport of vaccines", said the official , stressing that the Government's means should be sufficient to deliver vaccines “where necessary”.

The vaccination campaign against covid-19 in Angola, which is scheduled to start in February 2021, will be carried out in three stages, with priority for people over 40.

The National Vaccination Plan against covid-19 provides for immunization in the first phase of people over 40 years of age, of specific groups - with comorbidity, with high exposure (market vendors, public transport drivers, motorcycle taxi drivers) and aged advanced.

The second stage will cover people from 20 to 39 years old, and for those under 20, it should probably happen in 2022.

Angola, which has approximately 30 million inhabitants, is expected to receive 12 million vaccines.

In total, Angola currently has 18,254 confirmed cases, of which 3009 are under treatment, 14,825 have recovered from the disease and 420 have resulted in death.
