Jomo Fortunato, who was speaking this Wednesday at the launch of the National Environment Week, said that the motto elected for this year is to protect biodiversity for a sustainable and harmonious development, highlighting the importance of conservation for the development of the territory.
"Angola has one of the greatest diversities of ecosystems in Africa, an immense biodiversity in terms of aquatic ecosystems (including inland, marine and coastal waters), so protection and its conservation are at the top of our priorities," he said.
Between 2020 and 2022, said Jomo Fortunato, the ministerial department that oversees it, chose to focus on several actions, including mitigation and adaptation to climate change and combating drought, one of its effects, which has affected a large part of the national territory and requires a multisectoral approach.
Protecting, restoring and promoting the sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, including forests, containing and reverting soil degradation and preventing biodiversity loss are on the list of actions to be implemented by 2022.
Among the various actions planned for the National Environment Week is the presentation, Thursday in Luanda, of the Scientific Results on Biodiversity, and a 'workshop' on Wetlands is scheduled for Tuesday, with the participation of the Vice President, Bornito de Sousa.
