For this purpose, was this Monday initialed between the Embassy of Brazil in Angola and the University Agostinho Neto a memorandum of understanding on educational cooperation, with the initial duration of two years, and may extend up to five years.

In his speech, the Ambassador of Brazil in Angola, Paulino Neto, said that this agreement raises the level of exchange and brings benefits not only for the parties directly involved, but also in an extended form for cooperation between the academic communities of the two countries.

According to Paulino Neto, the selection of the Brazilian professor-reader for the Faculty of Letters of the University Agostinho Neto, with scholarship paid for the Ministry of the External Relations of Brazil, results of one of the priorities of the external action of the country, namely the promotion of the Portuguese language.

"The strengthening of this pluricentrism is supported by Brazil, both in its bilateral and multilateral action, without prejudice to the promotion of the Brazilian variant, thus contributing to the democratization and expansion of the language by the world, including, but not only, through the Orthographic Agreement of the Portuguese Language," said the Brazilian Ambassador.

Paulino Neto emphasized that the choice of the University Agostinho Neto was due to the "recognized quality of its teaching staff" and "important role in scientific research in Angola.

The ambassador of Brazil in Angola emphasized that it is now up to the Brazilian part to wait for the professor who will win "the rigorous selection process in charge of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Education of Brazil".

"This professional will certainly represent the welcome link of exchange in the areas of Portuguese language, Brazilian culture and Lusophone literature and will take with him forever the deep ties established in years of coexistence with Angolan teachers and researchers," he said.

In turn, the rector of the Agostinho Neto University, Pedro Magalhães, expressed the honor for the choice of public institution to cooperate with Brazil, a country with which traditionally Angola already maintains cooperation in various fields, including academic and cultural.

"The University Agostinho Neto, through its various faculties-schools, higher institutes, has already collaborated with several Brazilian universities, but the act that takes place today is unprecedented, because, for the first time, we signed an agreement that allows to highlight an expert in a specific area of knowledge, in this case, the teaching of the Portuguese language, at our university and we hope in reciprocity that this will happen on our side to Brazil," he said.

Pedro Magalhães stressed that this act not only represents a rapprochement between the two institutions, but also opens up the possibility of widening the field of research in the field of linguistics and other areas that the parties identify as being of common interest.

In statements to the press, the dean of the Faculty of Arts of the Agostinho Neto University, Alexandre Chikuna, considered interesting the agreement that allows the presence of the Brazilian professor-reader to work in the undergraduate and graduate courses, sharing knowledge about the Portuguese language and culture of Brazil.

"The professor will work in the course of Portuguese Language, where there is the chair of Brazilian literature and literary criticism and the professor may work with these chairs," said Alexandre Chikuna.

Asked if the agreement could facilitate research and scientific studies for the Orthographic Agreement, of which Angola is not yet a signatory, Alexandre Chikuna said that the memorandum signed today is merely academic, expressing the institution's willingness to work on the subject with the Angolan authorities.
