Isabel dos Santos will be taken to court

Businesswoman Isabel dos Santos was charged with alleged mismanagement and embezzlement during her passage through the state oil company Sonangol, the Attorney General's Office (PGR) announced this Wednesday. The announcement was made by the Attorney General, Heldér Pitta Grós, in a statement to the press in Luanda.

:

Helder Pitta Grós stated that the investigation process opened following a complaint by the chairman of the oil company's board of directors, Carlos Saturnino, has already been turned into a criminal case and some people have been implicated in the process to: the businesswoman and daughter of former President Isabel dos Santos; Sarju Raikundalia, former Sonangol's financial administrator: Mário Leite da Silva, manager of Isabel dos Santos and chairman of the Board of Directors of BFA; Paula Oliveira, friend of Isabel dos Santos and administrator of NOS and Nuno Ribeiro da Cunha.

According to the PGR, all of them are outside the country, in a first stage, they will be notified of their condition as defendants.

"At the moment, the concern is to notify and bring them to justice voluntarily," said the attorney general, adding that if this goal is not achieved, the OPG will resort to the legal instruments at its disposal, including the issuance of international arrest warrants.

The investigation into Isabel dos Santos' management in Sonangol between June 2016 and November 2017 was opened after her successor, Carlos Saturnino, raised suspicions about "irregular money transfers ordered by Sonangol's previous administration and other incorrect procedures".
