Ennes Ferreira: Action against Isabel dos Santos aims to “recover what was looted by the family”

Economist Manuel Ennes Ferreira said the Angolan Attorney General's (PGR) lawsuit against businesswoman Isabel dos Santos resulted from the need to "recover what was looted by the family" of the former President.

:

"The lawsuit against businesswoman Isabel dos Santos meets what are, on the one hand, the expectations of the people in the country and, on the other, the need that the Government has to recover what is due, which was, in reality, sacked by the family of saints, and that raises questions of ethical character and legitimacy that the Government has to replenish, "said the economist in statements to Lusa.

Reacting to the lawsuit filed by PGR to seize the assets of the businesswoman and daughter of former President of the Republic, Ennes Ferreira added that it is necessary to continue not only this case, but also others that will be less visible in the media agenda, under penalty of persecution thesis, which does not share, to succeed.

"It is hard for me to use the term persecution because it is a counterargument that is used or can be used to try to narrow the scope of such measures, and I hope they will go all the way and restore what the state is entitled to", said the professor of economics.

"If you stick only with Jose Filomeno 'Zenu' dos Santos or Isabel dos Santos, the idea you can come up with is this [of the political persecution of the former President's family], and that would be a tremendous mistake; starting this action on all those who plundered the Angolan state, which are many, there is one that stands out, and is this figure of engineer Isabel dos Santos, obviously", said the Luso-Angolan economist.

"Starting there is a very strong signal, because they need to indirectly show that a cut is being made with the predecessor, and in this sense I do not embark on the idea of being a persecution of the family, the greatest exponent was her, and João Lourenço It has to give signals that it wants to reform on internal political issues, to separate from previous governance and Isabel dos Santos is in the first line, period", he added.

The problem, he concluded, "is if this drags on and the other processes do not appear, there is no news, there are only things from time to time from a general or a former minister, we have to move forward and there are much more concrete things and not just to be around here, because if you stop there, the argument that it is a political persecution and changes only the names of the elite gives rise to this comment".

In addition to Isabel do Santos, who was the subject of a provisional seizure, also José Filomeno 'Zenu' dos Santos is in court with the court, responding in court for an alleged irregular transfer of 500 million dollars while chairman of the Sovereign Fund of Angola.
