Angela Merkel visits Angola and meets João Lourenço in February

The German chancellor, Angela Merkel, officially visits Angola on 7 February, in what will be her second visit to the country and which aims to deepen bilateral relations, the Angolan Presidency announced this Friday.

According to a note from the Civil House of the President of the Republic, Angela Merkel, she will arrive in Luanda from South Africa, having a meeting scheduled with the head of state, João Lourenço, during the morning of February 7th.

During the afternoon, the chancellor and President João Lourenço presided over the opening of the German-Angolan Economic Forum.

Merkel will also visit the Anthropology Museum, which started a cooperation program with the Goethe-Institut Angola and the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation.

He will also travel to a German company in the capital and will meet Angolans who studied in Germany.

This is Chancellor Angela Merkel's second visit to Angola, the first taking place in 2011, when an extended partnership was agreed between the two countries, according to the same note.

"The visit intends to further deepen relations between the Federal Republic of Germany and the Republic of Angola", says the text.

João Lourenço visited Germany in August 2018 and met Chancellor Merkel in New York in September.
