TAAG fleet maintenance to be provided by Lufthansa Technik

The maintenance of TAAG's Boeing 787 long-haul fleet will now be provided by Lufthansa Technik, following the signing of an agreement between the two companies, the flag carrier announced.

"TAAG and Lufthansa Technik recently signed a long-term agreement to provide technical services to aircraft components of the Angolan flag company's new Boeing 787 long-haul fleet", said TAAG, in a statement sent to VerAngola.

Effective from February 2025, the agreement lasts 12 years. "Starting with the arrival of the first plane in February next year and lasting for twelve years, TAAG's Boeing 787-9 and 787-10 will benefit from Total Component Support (TCS) from the company specializing in maintenance, repair and review (MRO)", informs TAAG, which also states that, "additionally, Lufthansa Technik will support TAAG in the Aircraft Production Inspection Program (APIP), covering not only the new Boeing 787, but also the Airbus fleet A220 that the company is forming".

According to TAAG, TCS will enable the national airline to access "Lufthansa Technik's wide range of spare parts, increasing the availability of components for the Dreamliner fleet and creating significant cost benefits".

"The contract covers, in addition to classic component maintenance services, AOG (Aircraft On Ground) support, as well as various logistics and parts supply works", points out the airline, also mentioning that the close collaboration between the companies will allow maximizing the efficiency of your technical operations.

"Experts from Lufthansa Technik, knowledgeable about the technical characteristics of state-of-the-art aircraft, will also ensure the quality of TAAG's most modern assets, even before the aircraft are delivered. Within the scope of APIP, they will supervise the entire production process directly on site from manufacturing the aircraft until acceptance of the aircraft", reads the note, which adds that the aforementioned service will be provided for the Boeing 787 fleet and for TAAG's new Airbus A220, which received the first equipment in September.

Regarding this partnership with Lufthansa Technik, the CEO of TAAG expressed satisfaction that the company could "count on the recognized experience in engineering and the vast technical capacity that the specialists" of this company offer.

"With two types of modern aircraft joining our fleet at almost the same time, we are pleased to be able to count on the recognized engineering expertise and vast technical capabilities that Lufthansa Technik experts offer," said Nelson de Oliveira, CEO of TAAG.

"With the strong support of our partners, we look forward to a rapid operationalization of operations with the new 787 and A220. Reliable component support will further ensure smooth operation of the Dreamliner from day one," he added.

In turn, the Vice President of Corporate Sales for Europe, the Middle East and Africa at Lufthansa Technik, considered this contract with TAAG as one of the "largest service projects for Dreamliner components in Sub-Saharan Africa": "The new contract with TAAG represents one of our largest service projects for Dreamliner components in Sub-Saharan Africa, which is why I congratulate everyone involved on achieving this important milestone".
