"The big Portuguese clubs have to wake up quickly. Because either they wake up quickly, or they lose Angola", said Pedro Gonçalves, in an interview with the newspaper A Bola.
The 'Palancas Negras' coach said that Portugal still has a "great impact on Angola", but that this impact could be lost among younger people: "They continue to have a great impact in Angola, they continue to be relevant in social terms, it's true, but younger people are starting to connect more with clubs in England or Spain. And of the more than 30 million Angolans, the largest some are young".
"I believe that if Portuguese clubs start to look at Angola (...) with different eyes they will have a high return and this, obviously, will also bring synergies for Angolan football and for young Angolan talents", he said.
"It has to be a common bridge that brings mutual benefits", he added, noting that he had the opportunity to convey these ideas to the president of the Portuguese club FC Porto, André Villas-Boas, during his recent visit to Luanda.
"That's what I conveyed a few days ago to André Villas-Boas, and the rest of the management, on his recent visit to Angola. There is a world to explore in Angola and the return, sporting and social, is extremely high," he said, in an interview with newspaper A Bola.
