Manuel Homem (re)opens SME post: “There is a big challenge in continuously improving the provision of services to citizens”

The Immigration and Foreigners Service (SME) has opened another public service point in Luanda, following the reopening of a post on the Luanda Marginal. The facility was reopened last Tuesday by the Minister of the Interior, Manuel Homem, who said that there was still “a major challenge in the continuous improvement of the provision of services to citizens” with regard to immigration assistance.

Located in the Petroleum Derivatives Regulatory Institute (IRDP) building, on Avenida 4 de Fevereiro, in the capital, this new post aims to improve the quality of services provided to citizens.

The consideration was made by the Minister of the Interior when speaking at the inauguration ceremony.

Thus, cited in a statement from the SME to which VerAngola had access, the official informed that "the new facilities were designed with the aim of continuing to improve the quality of services provided to citizens in general, and on the other hand, in ways to guarantee the continuity of quality work that we must continue to provide to the mineral resources, oil and gas sector, as well as other strategic sectors, in view of the considerable number of foreign citizens who flock to our country and who have the need for deal with their migratory acts".

The holder of the Interior portfolio also recognized that they have "a very big challenge ahead in relation to the continuous improvement of the provision of services to citizens, whose responsibilities fall to this body", adding that they "have to be increasingly committed to working" to create "better conditions, both from the point of view of infrastructure and human resources, to ensure that this aim can be achieved".

On the occasion, Manuel Homem also took the opportunity to reiterate "his thanks for the work being carried out by the general management of SME, in its multiple tasks".

"We must remain committed and imbued with the duty that, with integrity and the spirit of absolute dedication, we will be able to restore the dignity that this very important body must continue to have", said the minister, quoted in the statement.

In addition to Manuel Homem, the act was also witnessed by the Secretary of State for Mineral Resources, Jânio Correia Victor, the general director of SME, José Coimbra Baptista Júnior, among others.

According to Angop, this newly opened post now incorporates the services that previously operated at Total Energies facilities, which, in particular, dealt with the migration processes of that company's employees. Now with this new infrastructure, made up of 14 service areas, the range of services has increased, including, for example, the issuance of ordinary and service passports, residence permits, etc.

Manuel Homem's agenda in recent days was also marked by the tribute he paid to the agent who died after being run over.

According to a statement from the Ministry of the Interior, to which VerAngola had access, this is the third deputy chief Zacarias Pedro Ilalo, placed in the Department of Traffic and Road Safety, who was buried this Thursday in the Santa Ana Cemetery.

The agent was "the victim of a car being run over and of attacks on his physical integrity by firing a firearm, carried out by criminals who were chasing a vehicle while the victim was acting as a traffic regulatory agent", says the guardianship.

"Present, at the moment of tribute to the former third sub-chief Zacarias Pedro Ilalo, posthumously promoted to sub-inspector, were the Minister of the Interior, Manuel Gomes da Conceição Homem, the commander-general of the National Police of Angola, Commissioner-General Francisco Monteiro Ribas da Silva, members of the Superior Council of the National Police and family members", says the ministry.

Furthermore, the minister also did not let the festive season go unnoticed and, in recent days, he expressed a brief message alluding to this season: "As we approach the end of the year, we would like to express our gratitude for everyone's participation and collaboration in maintaining order and public safety".

"We will continue to reinforce our actions, in order to guarantee order and tranquility during the festive season, an exercise that will only be possible with the collaboration of everyone, avoiding practices that give rise to violence, vandalization of public property, traffic accidents and other evils that put social stability is at risk", he added.

In his message, he also left a word of thanks to the employees of the ministry he directs: "To the employees of the Ministry of the Interior, we recognize their commitment and spirit of sacrifice", he said, wishing happy holidays.
