Angola celebrates 50 years of independence on November 11, 2025 and the Government is preparing a series of activities to mark the date next year, including cultural and sporting events, lectures, infrastructure inaugurations and others.
For the journalist, the celebrations of the country's 50 years of independence should be used to reflect and define a common idea to improve the lives of citizens and human development, with solid investments in education.
"We should take advantage of the 50 years to reflect and draw an idea of how the country can be better for Angolans, how we can guarantee human development, investing in education, in key sectors, in reducing bureaucracy, employment, reforms in public administration and the State", stated the activist.
Speaking to Lusa, Rafael Marques said that there are no reforms that guarantee that the Government and public institutions are at the service of citizens, considering that the country will celebrate 50 years of "lack of freedom for Angolans and oppression of Angolans".
"We freed ourselves from the colonist to be neo-colonized by our own brothers, that's the truth", he said, criticizing the Government. And he lamented the current socioeconomic condition of Angolan families, questioning the motivations for inviting the Argentine football team to the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of independence amid the "cry of hunger" in the country.
"The Argentina team was invited to come and play in Angola, when people are complaining about hunger. Wouldn't this money be better invested in promoting school sports? We want good teams, where are the investments in academies? Where is the investment in school sports?", he asked.
Therefore, he argued that the festivities of Angola's 50 years of independence should be associated with a vast program to improve the quality of education in the country, which, in his view, is of the "worst possible quality in Africa".
"So, what are we going to celebrate? Mediocrity, arrogance", said the activist.
Close to eight thousand personalities, including several heads of state, were invited to the central event of the celebrations of Angola's 50 years of independence, which will take place on November 11, 2025 at Praça da República in Luanda.
