Filmed at the musician's home in Lisbon, the documentary tells the story of Barceló de Carvalho, better known as "Bonga". The short film also follows behind the scenes of the organisation of the show “Bonga 80+1”, which celebrated the musician's 81st birthday.
The film also includes testimonies from family, friends and members of the singer's band, which has accompanied him in several shows for over a decade. Among these, the words of Angolan teacher, composer and instrumentalist Alberto Feijó “Betinho Feijó” will be highlighted.
According to Jornal de Angola, the documentary is scheduled to be released in May, also aiming to mark the 50th anniversary of Angola's Independence. Bonga is considered a symbol of resistance, culture and freedom in the country, being the voice of semba.
This work also marks Edilson Ngunza's debut in cinema after completing his degree in Film Directing.
