According to a statement sent to VerAngola, "the announcement of the 2024 Architecture and Design Award from Fundação Brilhante took place last Friday, at the Continental Horizonte hotel in Luanda", in a ceremony that was attended by the "curator and head of the Technical Office of Culture and Arts of Fundação Brilhante, Arleth Leandro, to clarify the purposes of this award, which aims to promote integrated and innovative projects, duly designed to respect traditions, culture, people and their environment".
Among the aims of the aforementioned award, the note adds, is the encouragement of architects, designers, the community and industry sectors to share their projects, and it is assumed "with the desire to be a reference and one of the most prestigious awards in the world of Architecture and Design in Angola".
The purpose of the award is to "raise awareness and develop a sense of social responsibility among companies, architects, engineers and communities", as well as "make people believe that by involving everyone, it is possible to live in a place that offers balance between the vital need for infrastructures, such as water, electricity and basic sanitation and social and cultural facilities that promote the healthy physical and mental development of its inhabitants".
Thus, in the first year, there will be a broad program of lectures and discussion of experiences in various places, such as "schools and housing spaces", which will reflect on "inclusion needs and strategies".
Aimed at national professionals who reside in Angola or "in any other territory and who are registered with the Order of Architects", the competition will award three winners, as well as three mentions.
According to the statement, the prizes range between five and 10 million kwanzas "with access to artistic residencies or scholarships and study", and the chosen works will be "displayed in an exhibition with a joint catalogue".
Regarding the jury, it will be made up of "national and international personalities of recognized merit and prestige in the areas of Architecture and Design".
"The categories in which candidates can compete range from Design to Architecture, in the areas of Health and Education", says the note, adding: "The creation of partnerships with different sectors of the industry to implement some of the winning projects or training as a driver of job creation in the areas of Design and Architecture, these are objectives that Fundação Brilhante aims to achieve with the creation of this award".
