Emigration of Portuguese to Angola reaches new low in 2019

Portuguese emigration to Angola reached new lows in 2019, with 1708 citizens seeking this African country as their destination, which represents about a quarter of the entries registered in 2015, revealed this Wednesday the Emigration Observatory.

:

According to data from the consulates of the Republic of Angola in Lisbon and Oporto (no information was made available on visas issued by the Angolan consulate in Faro), this figure represents a 31 percent decrease over the previous year.

Since 2015, when there were a maximum of 6715 entries into Angolan territory, the number of Portuguese emigrants to this country has been decreasing significantly: -42 percent in 2016, -24 percent in 2017, -36 percent in 2018 and -11 percent in 2019.

The Observatory on Emigration justifies the drop with the economic crisis: "Everything indicates that the effects of the economic recovery in Portugal have been added to the recessive effects of the oil price crisis on the Angolan labour market of immigration, felt with more intensity from 2016.

The data compiled corresponds to the sum of the following types of visas issued by the Angolan consulates in Lisbon and Porto: privileged, work (the most common), work by protocol, residence and others (study and temporary stay).
