The Minister of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas highlighted this Monday the importance of the new Namibe province's jetty, budgeted at around seven million dollars, in the economic development of the southern region.

This terminal will help reduce the costs of receiving fuel, improve the safety of these operations and increase the capacity of fuel stocks distributed in the area as well as revitalize the Saco-Mar zone.

At the inauguration ceremony, Diamantino Azevedo made it known that the main objective of the jetty is to ensure the unloading of fuel, namely diesel, gasoline, Jet A1 and LPG, autonomously from the mineral wharf, ensuring speed and safety to the various operations involved in the process.

"This undertaking fills us with hope, because we are aware of the impact of these products on the economic development of this region," he said.

The project, which is part of Sonangol's efforts to increase the amount of fuel available in Namibe and the southern region of the country, specifically in the provinces of Cunene, Huila and Cuando Cubango, was built in nine months.

Diamantino Azevedo congratulated Sonangol on the rapid completion and indicated that there are projects of this kind underway in other provinces of the country: "It is important to say that there are projects underway in the provinces of Moxico, Huila and Lunda Sul that also aim to ensure the improvement of the fuel distribution process and consequently the supply of various localities in our country.

The jetty cost about seven million dollars and has a maximum capacity of 7000 tons per dead weight.
