The information is contained in the press release of the secretariat of the Council of Ministers that came out of the 9th ordinary meeting of the Commission for Social Policy, chaired this Tuesday by the Minister of State for the Social Area, Carolina Cerqueira.

The document emphasizes that the population is consuming a species of cassava rich in cyanide, known as bitter cassava, without observing the necessary measures for its preparation for consumption.

"Given this situation and with a view to containing the disease, the Ministry of Health, in concertation with the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, has been implementing urgent public health measures", says the statement, which does not add to the number of cases or since when they started to verify.
