Julieta Kiludi, the Angolan engineer who, at just 27, leads a team of men in the mine in Chipindo

Her name is Julieta Kiludi and she is a young engineer, born in Lubango and specialized in mining, who has been working for about two years at the Sociedade Mineira de Chicuamone. With the dream of seeing women involved and leading in this sector, she accepted the challenge of taking on the position of Mining Recovery and Processing Technician at the newly opened mine in Chipindo, in Huila.

A graduate of the Polytechnic Institute of the Mandume Ya Ndemufayo University, in Lubango, three years ago, Julieta says she has lived her first full experience of working in a mine, despite having carried out professional internships at the extinct Ferrangol and at IGEO, where she learned to put it into practice various academic concepts.

"It is not easy to study geosciences, but whoever does it falls in love and is dedicated", says the young woman, cited by the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas.

Despite being a woman in a mostly male-dominated world, Julieta has a dream: that by 2025 to see 40 percent of Minas Gerais' workforce in women, with women leading teams and companies. "Women, study and dedicate yourselves. Come show men what we are capable of," she pleads.

About her day-to-day, leading a team made up of men and in which she is the only woman, the engineer admits it is not easy. She confesses that some people still think that women's place is not in the mines. "I have imposed myself with the constant search for knowledge and dedication, working three or four times as hard to prove that women are competent", she says.

The engineer adds that she feels "a joy in working in the field in which she graduated" and the feedback she receives from people about her work is "charming and motivating".

Aged 27 and born in Lubango, Julieta wants to "be an example of a woman in some part of the world", stating that she did not choose engineering: "Engineering chose me. That's why I do everything with great care ".

As for the work in the mine – sometimes hard – he concludes that it is more than a simple job, "it is a passion".
