Sílvia Lutucuta speaks at the market at kilometer 30, municipality of Viana, where, for the second day, there is a massive test of citizens to assess the real situation of the pandemic in the country, characterized since 15 December with an increase in cases and confirmation of the presence of the variant Omicron.

"The result of yesterday [Monday] worries us, the average of 25 percent positivity rate, meaning that, in every 100, 25 people are infected. From the initial analysis still done, it means that the majority of the positive people had some clinical manifestation at a certain time", said Sílvia Lutucuta, in her intervention in the market broadcast by Angolan public radio.

The mass testing began Monday in the center of Luanda, namely in Largo das Escolas, Largo da Mutamba and Hospital Josina Machel, continuing this Tuesday in the markets at kilometer 30, in Viana, and Catinton, in Maianga.

"We chose strategic points, the 30's market, where we have here a mix of people, who come from all over, even some from other provinces, we are also in the Catinton market, which is also an important commercial turntable. Today we continue at Josina Machel, yesterday we were at Mutamba and Largo das Escolas", stressed the minister.

The holder of the Health portfolio appealed to the population for vaccination, since "the vaccine actually saves lives and helps to reduce the negative impact of this pandemic on people".

According to Sílvia Lutucuta, with the exponential increase in cases and with the Ómicron strain in circulation, health authorities want to know the reality of the pandemic in Luanda, the focus of the disease.

"How are we in reality, who are the most affected population groups, male, female, if we have many asymptomatic people, or who are literally asymptomatic, to know if it is affecting vaccinated or unvaccinated people, how is the degree of infection in people with comorbidities and also know which are the main focuses," she said.

Along with the testing, continued the minister, medical teams are carrying out the risk stratification, assessing whether people have comorbidities, whether they have symptoms, whether they are mild, whether they are moderate.

"Mostly these are mild symptoms and medications are being prescribed and advice on how to safely comply with home isolation is being done," she said.

Angola recorded in the last 24 hours, 1945 confirmed cases, four deaths and 10 recovered from the disease.

At this time, the country has a cumulative 73,697 positive cases, of which 7918 are active, 1753 deaths and 64,026 recoveries.

Covid-19 has caused more than 5.40 million deaths worldwide since the start of the pandemic, according to the latest report by Agence France-Presse.

The respiratory disease is caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, detected at the end of 2019 in Wuhan, a city in central China, and currently with variants identified in several countries.

A new variant, Ómicron, considered of concern by the World Health Organization (WHO), has been detected in southern Africa, but since the South African health authorities raised the alert on 24 November, infections have been reported in at least 110 countries. , being dominant in Portugal.
