The national authorities started this Monday, in Luanda province, a mega campaign to test covid-19, to assess the level of contagion of the disease, which in recent days has seen a considerable increase in positive cases.

According to the minister of Health, Sílvia Lutucuta, in the next few days asymptomatic people, vaccinated people who tested positive, among others, will be tested.

The official, cited by Angop, underlined that the strategy aims to reduce the transmission chain of the disease.

The minister pointed out that there are many infected families, due to non-compliance with preventive measures during the Christmas party.

For the campaign, test posts were set up in Largo das Escolas, Largo da Mutamba and Hospital Josina Machel, with a view to evaluating the community circulation of the new Ómicron variant in Luanda.

Ten thousand tests are available for two days, with a view to getting a sample on the behavior of the disease.

On Tuesday, the teams will focus on the Cantinton and kilometer 30 markets.

Health authorities have expressed concern about the situation of covid-19, which since December 15 has registered an exponential increase in cases, confirming the presence of the Ómicron variant in the country, after laboratory tests in Portugal.

The country is going through its fourth wave of the pandemic and has reached, for the first time, the four daily digits of confirmed cases.

In the last 24 hours, the country registered 610 cases, three deaths and 21 recovered, totaling 71,752 positive cases, 1749 deaths and 64,016 recovered since the beginning of the pandemic, with 5987 active cases being active, of which one in critical condition, 18 serious, 50 moderate, 69 mild and 5849 asymptomatic.

Of the total, 139 patients are hospitalized, 188 people are in institutional quarantine and 803 contacts are under epidemiological surveillance.

Covid-19 has caused more than 5.39 million deaths worldwide since the start of the pandemic, according to the latest report by Agence France-Presse.
