João Lourenço visits Hospital Américo Boavida

The President of the Republic returned this Friday to Hospital Américo Boavida (HAB) – a health unit that he had officially visited in 2018 – to learn about the functional status of one of the country's leading hospitals.

João Lourenço was accompanied by members of his Executive, having visited several service areas and received detailed information about the infrastructure and the current model of customer service.

Also known as Luanda University Hospital, Américo Boavida is the main medical-hospital complex of the Agostinho Neto University Faculty of Medicine, being an essential element in the university education sector and also with regard to research.

Founded in 1958 as Hospital de São Paulo, the unit currently has an inpatient capacity of 800 beds (part of these in emergency rooms), with services in almost all specialties, with emphasis on pediatrics, surgery and the Intensive Care Unit.

The hospital unit employs more than three hundred workers, center 173 doctors, of which Angolans and foreigners (mostly Cuban expatriates).
