Physicians Union reiterates maintenance of the strike indefinitely

The president of the Union of Doctors of Angola (Sinmea) said this Tuesday that the strike will continue for an indefinite period, because of the claim list, presented since last September, “almost nothing was dealt with”.

:

Adriano Manuel, who was speaking to Lusa, said that the statements made by the Secretary of State for the Hospital Area, Leonardo European, who represents the employer at the negotiating table, "are not realistic".

According to Leonardo Europe, the Ministry of Health was surprised with the start of the strike, this Monday, when the parties are at the negotiating table, having already met most of the points of claim.

"The secretary of state was unrealistic, he says that we addressed it to the sixth point, that is not true, because approaching it to the sixth point means that they accepted the salaries we asked for, accepted the subsidies we asked for, which is not true", he said.

The union leader stressed that the second point of the claim list was not fully discussed, no time frame was given for equipping municipal hospitals.

"In short, almost nothing was dealt with, nothing was defined", said Adriano Manuel, noting that not even in relation to the first point, where the immediate replacement of the union president is required, nothing was defined.

On his situation, the president of Sinmea underlined that two guides were issued for his relocation in two hospitals under the Ministry of Health, but the nullity of the disciplinary process on him was not accepted.

"That is a coat of hair and we cannot accept it. The Ministry of Health did not accept to withdraw the disciplinary process and, in doing so, it means that if I go to work for a hospital with direct reporting to the Ministry of Health, one more comment from me as a union member, I am expelled from the civil service", he stressed.

One of the first demands of the claim list is the immediate replacement of Adriano Manuel and his compensation for the damage caused by his transfer to the Ministry of Health's Human Resources and the nullity of the disciplinary process.

The aforementioned disciplinary proceeding was brought against the pediatrician for denouncing to the press the death of 19 children out of 24 in the emergency room of the Pediatric Hospital David Bernardino, having been transferred to the Human Resources department of the Ministry of Health, justified with the need for staff mobility.

According to Adriano Manuel, a hospital that was not directly subordinated to the Ministry of Health was suggested, but "they don't want to".

"First, they made the mistake of withdrawing me, the law says I can't leave while I'm working as a union, they extrapolated the law, so they'll do more if I go to a hospital with direct reporting to the Ministry of Health", he added.

Asked what arguments are raised for not returning to the David Bernardino Pediatric Hospital, the unionist said that the Ministry of Health claims that the relationship between the director of that hospital unit is not healthy.

"They say that there is no relationship between me and the hospital director, as if the institution were the hospital director, so if I go to another hospital where the director doesn't like me, I also have to leave. Institutions don't are personal," he stressed.

As suggestions, the Hospital Geral de Luanda or the Hospital do Talatona were appointed, which are subordinate to the Government of the Province of Luanda.

"The strike continues, we are going to continue negotiating today, but we are going to maintain our position, we are not going to change," he reaffirmed.
