Angola is the sixth largest market for Alentejo wines. The country imported more than 700,000 liters of Portuguese nectar this year

In the first nine months of this year, more than 700,000 liters of Alentejo wine (in Portugal) were exported to Angola, which is currently the sixth largest destination market for Alentejo wines. According to Francisco Mateus, chairman of the board of the Alentejo Regional Wine Commission (CVRA), the outlook is to end 2024 with “a total export of around one million liters of wine to Angola”.

Between January and September this year, a total of 709,070 liters of wine were exported to Angola, "which at exit prices from Portugal, represented a total of 2,563,663 euros, corresponding to 2,521,507,828 kwanzas", states a statement sent to VerAngola.

However, the year is not over yet and the outlook is that 2024 will end with exports of Portuguese wine to Angola, currently the sixth largest destination market for Alentejo wines, at around one million liters.

"We expect to end the year with total exports of around one million liters of wine to Angola. This is a market in which we intend to strengthen ties and the distribution of our wine, so next year we will continue this work of getting closer and having a strong presence in the country", said Francisco Mateus, also leaving a challenge to Angolan consumers: "With Christmas approaching, we invite Angolan consumers to celebrate this festive season with the perfect company of Alentejo wines at the Christmas Eve table".

In addition to exports, it is also important to note that, during this year, CVRA "invested and promoted a programme of training and wine dinners in Angola, which impacted more than 80 professionals, with the aim of strengthening proximity to the Angolan market", with the last activity having been held last Wednesday, at the Epic Sana Luanda Hotel, and attended by approximately 20 people, including "partners, customers and opinion leaders", as well as the participation of wine educator Sebastião Vemba.

"This is a year that marks the return of Alentejo wines to Angola, with a view to increasing investment and proximity to Angolan distributors and consumers, as well as fostering partnerships and beneficial and solid business opportunities. Between the months of May and November, two training sessions and three wine dinners were held, where professionals had the opportunity to learn about the characteristics of some of the best and most emblematic Alentejo wines, originating from the second largest wine-producing region in Portugal", said Francisco Mateus.
