At a press conference, the spokesperson for the Criminal Investigation Service (SIC), Manuel Halaiwa, said that the detainees, who confessed to committing the crime, are accused of aggravated homicide.
According to Manuel Halaiwa, the American citizen, the victim's wife, is allegedly the mastermind behind this crime, which also involves a 24-year-old Angolan citizen, a former employee of a security company that protected the couple's home.
The SIC spokesperson said that, after terminating the contract with the company, the individual was hired by the couple, maintaining a close relationship with the family.
Manuel Halaiwa said that there are “strong suspicions of a relationship, possibly romantic, between the mastermind and the participant, her accomplice”.
In addition to Jacqueline Shoyer, the perpetrator of the crime, a 23-year-old citizen with a criminal record, is also in custody, while another accomplice is on the run.
To carry out the crime, the mastermind is said to have paid the sum of 9,400 dollars, which the accused are said to have converted into kwanzas, with about half of that, 4.5 million kwanzas, already being held captive.
According to the SIC spokesperson, it is “certain that the mastermind will have ordered the execution of her husband because she did not want to leave Angola”, wanting “permanent contact, but also to carry out another action focused on missionary life, on account of some projects in the municipality of Humpata, where they have already received large budgets, millions of dollars are being talked about”.
The couple, married for 20 years, with five children, arrived in Angola in 2021 to provide missionary services for the Laques Area Vineyard Church (LAVC).
Beau Shroyer, 44, was allegedly lured by his wife to a secluded location in order to learn how to drive a manual transmission car. He was stabbed to death inside his vehicle, at a time when Jacqueline Shroyer had left the location to relieve herself.
The Ministry of the Interior informed the US Embassy in Angola and also the family, awaiting further formalities for the transfer or burial of the victim.
“The vehicle used to commit the crime, the instrument used to commit the crime and also the seized amounts held in the bank have been seized. We have already determined some trace of this money and 4.5 million kwanzas have already been seized,” said Manuel Halaiwa.
