Luena is the capital of the province of Moxico.
It is known as the city of peace because it was where the end of the civil war that raged from 1975 to 2002, the year in which the National Day of Peace took place in the country.
Furthermore, as a symbol of peace, Luena is home to the Peace Monument.
Luena was not always called Luena, and was even named Vila Luso.
Furthermore, it is in Luena that the Luena Forest Reserve is located, as well as the Cameia National Park.
