According to a note from CSC, a mining company that explores iron in the province of Cuando Cubango, the shipment of 20 thousand tons of green pig iron [product resulting from ore reduction] is underway, the ship will be destined for the port of Mombasa, in Kenya.
The note highlights that this operation is the first after the inauguration of the steel plant in August this year.
The president of the board of directors of CSC, Rui Silva, mentioned in the note, highlighted that the ship's loading ends this Monday and should set sail on Tuesday, from the commercial terminal at the Port of Namibe, within the scheduled period.
"Our goal, now with the factory in operation, is to produce eight thousand tons of pig iron per month and export 24 thousand tons of the product every three months", explained Rui Silva.
Rui Silva also mentioned that the company currently maintains 1200 direct jobs, divided between the factory and the mine, and by 2024 the projection is that production will reach 96 thousand tons.
By 2025, the company expects production to increase to 516 thousand tons, with the completion of three more furnaces of 140 thousand tons each, whose investment plan is being worked on with the bank, worth 250 million dollars, by then it is expected to reach 5000 direct jobs.
"The final step will be to reach one million tons in 2027, and at that time start producing steel in Angola, increasing the workforce to 10,000 jobs, generating more foreign exchange for the country and contributing to goals that we all aim for in terms of exports and also domestic consumption in the case of steel", states the document.
CSC, a joint-stock company with private capital founded in 2016, is the first steel company in Angola to produce pig iron and use charcoal as a reducer in the production process, through sustainable technology free of carbon emissions, the company indicates in its presentation.
The steel complex, located in the municipality of Cuchi, is approximately 66 kilometers from the Cutato mine and 620 kilometers from the Port of Namibe, where production is exported.
